Artist's Description
I have so many fond memories and pictures of events I enjoyed attending where this historic chapel was always in the background Most enjoyable were the annual Fiestas where visitors could indulge in an assortment of live performances, dancing, music and delicious Mexican food. As a teenager, in modern dance class, I also performed on this very spot.
The Presidio Chapel was constructed between 1877 and 1882 and is located about 17 miles southeast of El Paso, Texas and is part of The Mission Trail. It continues to serve as an active parish and is the focal point of the flourishing San Elizario art district.
The original painting was donated to raise money for the San Elizario's Geneology and Historical Society Founder's luncheon.
Due to the festive nature of the scene I chose to paint it in a Folk art style and incorporated the use of an acrylic pen for outlining.
About Roseanne Schellenberger
Welcome and thank you for visiting my online gallery! My work is a celebration of my sense of adventure and deep connection I feel with nature. I grew up in the desert region of Texas and have so many fond memories of family vacations to the surrounding attractions including some in New Mexico and Arizona. That might explain why southwestern landscapes are my favorite! I work in acrylics with a combination of brush and knife applications, gravitating towards realism with a focus on color. However, I also like to experiment with a variety of techiniques and styles including semi-abstracts. When I'm not painting I enjoy being outdoors, traveling the open road, hiking the trails, photography and planning the next adventure. -Roseanne...
