I have always loved artwork, in all styles from realism to folk, that features skulls. I see them as remnants of the past symbolic of what once was, life and death.
I painted this using the same techniques I used to create "A Beautiful Thing-Headdress" which you can also see on my FAA page. I first painted the headress using a string to create the feathers. This flow/string pull technique can be fun yet very challenging, especially if the goal is to do it in a controlled fashion. It's done on very wet conditions often resulting in unpredictability and alot of movement in the paint during and immediately after. Once that part of the painting is completely dry I picked up my favorite brushes and added the cow skull purposely leaving the tip of the snout off the canvas like many of the feathers were.

Welcome and thank you for visiting my online gallery! My work is a celebration of my sense of adventure and deep connection I feel with nature. I grew up in the desert region of Texas and have so many fond memories of family vacations to the surrounding attractions including some in New Mexico and Arizona. That might explain why southwestern landscapes are my favorite! I work in acrylics with a combination of brush and knife applications, gravitating towards realism with a focus on color. However, I also like to experiment with a variety of techiniques and styles including semi-abstracts.
