The transition from day to night in the desert can be a glorious scene. Oranges, reds, yellows and pinks stretch across the horizon as the sun sets. A silhouetted image of a yucca becomes a dramatic accent in the barren landscape while the Christmas Mountains rise from the Chihuahuan desert floor in the distance.
This mountain range is adjacent to Big Bend National Park and covers about 15 square miles with a summit of 5,728 feet. Property of the Texas State University System the mountains are visible from Highway 118 and can be accessed by vehicle only through the Terlingua Ranch. Additional activies enjoyed there are hiking, biking and horseback riding.
This painting is part of a series of miniatures (8" x 8") in size.

Welcome and thank you for visiting my online gallery! My work is a celebration of my sense of adventure and deep connection I feel with nature. I grew up in the desert region of Texas and have so many fond memories of family vacations to the surrounding attractions including some in New Mexico and Arizona. That might explain why southwestern landscapes are my favorite! I work in acrylics with a combination of brush and knife applications, gravitating towards realism with a focus on color. However, I also like to experiment with a variety of techiniques and styles including semi-abstracts. When I'm not painting I enjoy being outdoors, traveling the open road, hiking the trails, photography and planning the next adventure. -Roseanne...
